Sean Kelly, MEP for Ireland South, expressed his enthusiasm for Qualcomm Technologies’ recent announcement of a $127 million investment in expanding its research and development facility in Cork city, describing the move as “a significant boost to the city.”

Kelly stated, “The creation of 150 new highly skilled engineering jobs is a significant milestone in Qualcomm’s continued success story in the region. This $127 million investment shows faith in the quality of the Irish workforce, contributing to the creation of 150 highly skilled engineering roles over the next four years. There is no doubt that this is a positive contribution to the Cork region.”

Kelly emphasized that Qualcomm’s investment demonstrates the attractiveness of Cork as an investment destination, noting, “That not only will more investment in Cork be needed for the country, with the likes of developing the offshore wind, green hydrogen and tech industries, it will also be required to relieve pressure on Dublin and drive growth in the Southern Region.”
