Member of the European Parliament Delegation for COP21
Leader of Fine Gael in the European Parliament

Friday 20th November, 11:00 – 13:00

Royal Hotel, Bray, Co. Wicklow

Over the past few months I have led discussions in the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) as we finalised the Parliament’s position ahead of the upcoming historic Climate Change Conference in Paris – COP21. This has led to me being given the privileged opportunity of representing the European Parliament in Paris next month.

In preparation for the conference, on the 20th of November in the Royal Hotel in Bray, Co. Wicklow, I will hold a high-level information seminar and discussion to look at the Ireland’s position in the context of this historic agreement. I would be delighted and honoured if you would join from 11:00 – 13:00 for what is sure to be an extremely interesting event. A light sandwich lunch will be provided afterwards.

In Paris we expect to witness the announcement of a legally binding and universal agreement on Climate Change which will aim to keep global warming below 2oC when compared with pre-industrial levels. This is a challenge that will affect all sectors – energy, industry and agriculture. I, and I expect most others joining me in attendance in Paris, will be keen to see an ambitious, effective and binding global agreement in December – the ambition must be global, otherwise we put the competitiveness of some of our key growth sectors at risk. At the same time, we will need to meet the parallel issues of ensuring food security, and maintaining jobs and growth.

To discuss these issues, I will be joined by a distinguished panel of guests, each bringing a specific expertise to the discussion. We need the right deal in Paris, and this will mean moving along the road towards carbon neutrality. I hope you will join me and I look forward to hearing your views and the views of our speakers as we prepare for this landmark agreement.

To register, please email [email protected] by no later than Tuesday 17th November as places are limited.

Speakers joining me at the event:

Mauro Poinelli, Head of Unit Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, DG AGRI
Jill Murray, Bord Gáis Energy, Chair IBEC Climate Working Group
Eimear Cotter, Head of Low Carbon Technologies, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland
Eamon Ryan, Leader of the Green Party
