The four Fine Gael MEPs Seán Kelly, Mairead McGuinness, Brian Hayes and Deirdre Clune are delighted to host the Chairman of the EPP Group, Manfred Weber, on a visit to Ireland today (Thursday, 12 July).

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Leader Fine Gael in the European Parliament Seán Kelly confirmed that the German MEP will visit the border in Co Louth on Thursday afternoon with the MEPs, before returning to Dublin where they will meet with An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at government buildings:

“We will be delighted to welcome Manfred Weber to Ireland today, where he will see the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland and meet local representatives in Louth at what is a very crucial time in the Brexit negotiations.

“Mr Weber will also meet with the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in Dublin and other ministers and government representatives as well as Fine Gael party members. As EPP Group Chairman, Mr Weber maintains a regular dialogue with EU leaders and EPP member parties,” Mr Kelly said.

The Ireland South MEP added that Mr Weber’s visit to Ireland is an opportunity to discuss the ongoing Brexit negotiations and Ireland’s position in light of the most recent developments as well as other priority issues: “It will be an interesting and engaging visit for Mr Weber who has always been steadfast in his support for Ireland during the Brexit negotiations.”
