Delivered at Irish Rural Dwellers Association Conference, Tralee, Co Kerry on “Rebuilding Our Rural Communities” Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I am very pleased to be here to address this conference this morning. I would like to commend today’s convenors on a very comprehensive and engaging programme.

Sean Kelly, MEP of the Year for Research & Innovation, has welcomed the support of the Irish EU Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn who said the proposal to secure €1 billion in Horizon 2020 funds for Irish-led projects is an “ambitious but achievable target”.

Hosting a special briefing on ‘Restoring Trust Online’ in the European Parliament this morning (Wednesday), Sean Kelly MEP said Europe must seize the opportunity to lead and be proactive in terms of online privacy and protecting the data of users.

Sean Kelly MEP has requested that the GAA sets up a special committee to seriously evaluate buying its historic birthplace of Hayes Hotel in Tipperary or other possible ways to preserve the building.
