Shannon LNG still in the Champions League
Sean Kelly MEP has today expressed his disappointment with the High Court ruling in favour of the Commission for Energy Regulation, following the case taken by potential Kerry project Shannon LNG.
MEP Kelly, a member of the Industry and Energy Committee of the European Parliament, has worked to ensure that Shannon LNG has been designated an EU Project of Common Interest.
“The so-called PCI designation would see up to €60 million of EU funds being invested in Kerry,” explained MEP Kelly.
“In sporting terms, it is in the Champions League of EU Energy projects,” he explained.
“Therefore, I call all parties to move on and come to a solution which will deliver a secure and diversified supply of gas for Irish consumers and industry, as has been recognised by the European Commission in its high ranking of Shannon LNG.
“I have written to Minister Rabbitte and the Commissioner for Energy Regulation Dermot Nolan to make this point and I hope they will take it on board.
“This is a game changer and the CER, despite being on the winning side today, must ensure that it works for Team Ireland in ensuring that Shannon LNG gets fair play in a negotiated tariff structure,” he concluded.
