The European Parliament Information Office together with Seán Kelly MEP hosted a special briefing on “EU Funding Opportunities” today in Cork, at which over one hundred people were present to hear a panel of speakers including representatives from the European Investment Bank, the European Commission, Ibec and the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland.

The presentations covered details of EU-backed schemes to provide loans from hundreds of millions to tens of thousands in a wide range of fields, including Research and Development, SMEs, Farming, Social Housing, Infrastructural Projects and Education. Henry Kingston on behalf of the Port of Cork presented a case study on the Ringaskiddy Port development project.

Speaking after the event, Seán Kelly MEP said: “‘This morning’s seminar in Cork had a large attendance who were high in their praise of the speakers on the panel who outlined graphically the funding available under EFSI, the criteria and methods of application and the help available in acquiring same.

“Attendees were pleased that the event helped “demystify” what is often a complicated process. Clearly Cork and Ireland has many opportunities to develop in especially SMEs and growing awareness and support will help make this happen.

“I’m grateful to speakers and attendees for a very worthwhile venture.”
