MEP for Ireland South, Seán Kelly, has congratulated Killarney native Jessie Buckley on her historic Academy Award win for Best Actress, describing the achievement as a moment of immense pride for Ireland, Kerry, and the people of Killarney.
Buckley made history at the Oscars last night with her acclaimed performance in Hamnet, becoming the first Irish woman to win the accolade.
“Jessie Buckley has done Killarney, Kerry and all of Ireland incredibly proud,” said Mr. Kelly.
“Her extraordinary talent has captivated audiences around the world and tonight it has been rightly recognised. To see someone from Killarney reach the very top of the world of film is something truly special.
“This is a truly historic achievement and a wonderful moment for her, for the Buckley family in the Arbutus Hotel, and for the entire community that has supported her journey. We, in Kerry, are all immensely proud of Jessie and wish her every continued success.”
