Ireland South MEP Seán Kelly welcomed another successful Darkness into Light event this year, with over 150,000 people gathering at 150 venues across the globe. While Mr. Kelly’s colleagues joined the launch of Darkness into Light Brussels, the leader of the Parliament’s Fine Gael delegation joined the empowering walk in his hometown of Killarney.

“It has been an honour to participate in the annual Darkness into Light walk in aid of Pieta House. The walk is a very important initiative that is currently in its 10th year. The event has grown from strength to strength and has evolved enormously from its humble beginnings in the Phoenix Park.

The event has spread all the way to the European Parliament:

“I was lucky enough to take part in the walk at home in Killarney where there was huge support for the initiative. The event has now gone international, with over 600 attendees taking part in the first official Brussels Darkness into Light event this year. This really underlines the enormous support that there is for this project and shows that it can only grow further from here.

“The event is an incredible act of solidarity with all who are suffering with mental health issues and sends an important message that even in darkness we are never truly alone. Events such as this which increase awareness of mental health issues are extremely important as suicide affects far too many people each year. The event also celebrates the fantastic work that is done by Pieta House every day to improve the lives of others. Anyone affected by mental health issues should not hesitate to avail of their 24 hour service on 1800 247 247.”
