Sean Kelly, Ireland South MEP, has been shortlisted as a candidate for the prestigious IAB European Interact Business Awards, which will take place this week – 24 May, in Barcelona. The nomination is in recognition for the Irish MEP’s positive contribution to public policy in the EU.
Sean Kelly, MEP is currently the EU’s Industry Committee Rapporteur for the General Data Protection Regulation – and has been focused over the past 18 months working through the more than 4,000 amendments, in preparation for the European Union’s Data ProtectionRegulation update, the largest reform of data privacy law, in two decades.
Mr Kelly, MEP of the Year for Research and Innovation (2013), commented ahead of the IAB Europe Interact awards ceremony in Barcelona – “Our challenge in modernising the EU Data Protection Regulation has been to safeguard consumer privacy rights thus enabling users to control their own data, while also continuing to provide a stimulus for Innovation in Europe, in the area’s of digital media, mobile software and online advertising.”
“I am therefore humbled to be considered for an award at the IAB Europe 2013 Interact Congress in Barcelona, in recognition of my contribution to public policy, and in particular the progress we are making in the area of Data Protection Regulation legislation in the European Union. The Interact Congress awards also highlight how digital media technology has now become a core element of business advertising strategy and investment.”
