The four Fine Gael MEPs will meet the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB)Werner Hoyer and Vice-President Jonathan Taylor in Luxembourg today, Monday (29th September).

MEPs Sean Kelly (South), Mairead McGuinness (Midlands North West), Brian Hayes (Dublin) and Deirdre Clune (South) requested the meeting with the EIB to discuss the instrumental role the EU’s bank will continue to play in restoring growth and prosperity to Member States such as Ireland.

“My colleagues and I are particularly interested in the EIB’s ability to support business growth through lending schemes, advisory services and the funding of public infrastructure and investment opportunities in Ireland,” said Sean Kelly, Leader of the Fine Gael delegation in the European Parliament.

The MEPs will also highlight how the EIB could strengthen its support for Ireland through the funding of tourism or regeneration projects and other innovative ways that could help or enhance towns and villages that have suffered due to the economic collapse.  The delegation will also query the possibility of the EIB funding flood defence projects in Ireland.

The meeting takes place in Luxembourg on Monday afternoon.
