Roundtable discussion (no formal presentations needed) about Youth Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Showcasing case study examples from speakers about their particular experiences working with Young Entrepreneurs, and/or also discussing their advice for graduates and young people settings up their own creative enterprises/or business-community projects etc and supports for Start Up Enterprises

Sean Kelly, MEP of the Year Innovation and Research – (Event Host) Recipient of IAB Europe’s Award for Leadership & Excellent in Public Policy

Seán will discuss Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the EU context, opportunities in the EU market for Young Irish Innovators, EU Supports for Irish Entrepreneurs to develop disruptive technologies, and employment generating enterprises.

The European Commission will soon implement legislative improvements in the better regulation of data sharing, mobile software, and also introduce a single unitary EU patent to facilitate more innovation across the EU – these emerging areas in the digital economy offer enormous growth opportunities for Innovative Irish Young Entrepreneurs.

Eamon Curtin – Director UCC IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme

Eamon is a graduate of the University of Limerick with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronics and he also has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from University College Cork).

Eamon Curtin has broad engineering and management experience having worked with a number of US multinational companies both in Ireland and abroad. In 2003, he founded a successful consultancy providing business development advisory and training services to the SME sector. He has worked extensively on training and development programmes for start-up and early stage businesses in recent years before taking on his current role as Director of IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme.

Eamon will share his practical experience of mentoring young entrepreneurs, helping to support/launch new innovative enterprises through the UCC IGNITE Programme and also how UCC IGNITE has been fostering a culture of innovation and teaching practical business skills to help make change happen for young entrepreneurs in Cork.

Larry Moffett, Vice President of the Young Innovators Forum, will discuss the challenges and opportunities for Innovators developing disruptive technologies and market leading products in the areas of health, digital media and sustainable energy.  Larry is a founder and Managing Partner at e-Strategy, a business consultancy based in Brussels specializing in international business development for small companies in the IT sector. Larry s a graduate of Princeton University, University of California Berkeley, and holds an MBA in Business Management from INSEAD.

Pat Phelan, founder and CEO of Trustev, and serial entrepreneur, will share his experience in Starting Up successful enterprises and offer some practical advice to would-be entrepreneurs,that can lead to building one of the most innovative businesses in Europe. 

Pat is a graduate of CIT and has served as Managing Director, Director and/or founder of a number of companies including: Fonehome, Starfish Telecom, Excel Collections Ltd, Tele99, Roam4Free, Allfreecalls.net, Twitterfone, and Cubic Telecom Ltd,

Pat and Trustev are this year’s Winner of the European Commission – Tech All Stars Awards, honoured by Vice President of the Commission Neelie Kroes in London last week.

Pat is also the Winner of the 2008 IIA & Enterprise Ireland Net Visionary Award and Ireland’s most beautiful website from The Irish Web awards and 2007 Emerging Company of the Year from IT @Cork among others.

Frank Walsh

Frank is a graduate of University College Cork and is Director of Enterprise Equity (IVCA members) will speak on behalf of the Venture Capital community and offer advice for Start Ups including the “Do’s and Don’ts” in Starting a new business venture. Enterprise Equity provides both seed and venture capital funding to start-ups and developing companies.

Lousie Riordan of Young Social Innovators Ireland (YSI) will present a backgrounder on the ethos and workings of Young Social Innovators Ireland, providing some examples of successful Young Social Innovators and conclude by discussing how we can encourage more young people to become Social Innovators. Louise is Social Innovation Engagement Coordinator with YSI. A graduate of UCC and NUI Galway, Lousie is the current Vodafone World of Difference Winner 2012/2013

Brendan Finucane – founder VConnecta Ltd

Brendan is a BSc (Business Information Systems) Graduate of University College Cork (2012). His final year project focused on the design of a mobile application for canvassing. He founded VConnecta Ltd in 2012 and has since developed his first product, a smart phone application called Mobile Ecanvasser, that enables campaign teams to plan more effective canvasses. Brendan will complete the IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme in June 2013.

Michael O’Leary – TransAct Carbon  

Michael O’Leary (CEO) is an accomplished Business Professional with over 25 years Sales Management and Marketing experience in the FMCG industry, software solutions, and electronic security. He has extensive business knowledge and experience gained in start-up companies, in particular, NewWorld Commence, Greenworld Technology and iSecure. Michael is a graduate of UCC and the University of Limerick, and has previously served as a Partner with Slade International and has worked in Sales with Heineken.
